Aunt Nabila returned safely from her expedition into the unknown. Unfortunately, any interesting artifacts she may have brought back with her are currently packed in crates heading for our new home in the West. While not terribly happy about my enlisting in the Navy, she was at least glad that I had the sense (as she put it) to join the Middlesea Fleet, where she is some kind of wig in the Ladies' Auxiliary. How we are meant to participate from an outpost at the edge of the civilized world I'm sure I don't know, but I have a feeling that some kind of technological thingumy may facilitate our travels in the future. It's all very hush hush, so it's a good thing I can keep a secret.
Oh, here's a paper-print (hand tinted) of the glass plate struck of Aunty on her return from the core. I'm sure they were glad to have a good security officer/photographer on board! When we reach the Oregon Territories I hope to learn how to shoot as well.

The Vicissitudes of Life
Having no relations who are willing or suited to care for my orphaned self, it has fallen out that I shall become the ward of distant relations Rittmaster and Mrs. Peterman (nee Nadir), who are in the process of settling in the Oregon Territories. I arrived from the East only to find the Rittmaster away on campaign (fighting the Indians?), and Aunt Nabila away on a dangerous Expedition to the Core of the Earth! Luckily, I can shift for myself.
I joined the Navy.
I joined the Navy.
